Study where the forest is your classroom

NAU’s School of Forestry offers unmatched access to one of the most ecologically diverse regions in the country. With nearly 47,000 acres of research forest just outside Flagstaff and a strong faculty-to-student ratio, you’ll learn by doing: collecting data, managing ecosystems, and exploring solutions to the environmental challenges of today and tomorrow. Join forestry-focused student organizations, connect with peers and mentors, and apply for one of 50+ dedicated scholarships that support your academic journey.

Get career-ready with personalized support

Whether you’re just starting or preparing for graduation, the School of Forestry connects you with the tools, people, and opportunities to launch your career. First- and second-year students work with NAU’s Career Development Office to explore options and build early experience. Upper-division students connect with CEFNS Career Development for internships, job fairs, and industry guidance. You’ll also have access to a dedicated Student Success Team to help you stay on track and navigate academic, personal, or career questions. From classroom to canopy, we’re here to support your growth.

Faculty rooted in research and impact

NAU School of Forestry professors combine real-world expertise with inclusive, community-first values. With small classes, low student-to-faculty ratios, and living laboratories in the largest ponderosa pine forest in the West, students get hands-on experience in field, lab, and research settings. Meet the faculty who lead nationally-recognized forestry research, champion equity in environmental science, and support every student’s growth into a forestry professional ready to make a real impact.

Take the next step

I’m working with an entomologist, a silviculturist; I’m talking with people who do hydrology and soils. And we’re working together to figure out these big, important problems. That’s something that makes NAU’s School of Forestry really cool. I’ve grown a lot from experiencing that.
